Bio

Craig grew up in Southern California, becoming involved with computer programming, graphic design, and photography from an early age.  By the time he was 15 years old, he had already won two engineering design awards from the City of Los Angeles for the design of an energy saving product.

After graduation from Chadwick High School in Palos Verdes, he moved to Seattle in the Pacific Northwest to study engineering at the University of Washington where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, focusing on the programming of industrial robots using artificial intelligence.  Continuing on for his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, Craig studied Human Factors, User Interface Design, Computer Graphics, and Software Engineering.  During that time, he focused his research efforts on the emerging field of Virtual Environments as the first Ph.D. student at the Human Interface Technology Laboratory at the University of Washington.

While in graduate school Craig was the sole recipient of a large scholarship award from the Interservice/IndustryTraining Simulation and Education Conference for advancing the field of interactive computer graphics for flight simulation.  In addition, he received a prestigious award from the Link Foundation for advances he made to the field of computer graphics.  While studying for his Ph.D., he worked as a Research Technologist, and Laboratory Manager, and just after getting his degree, as a Human Factors Professor.

After receiving his Ph.D., Craig focused his efforts on his consulting business.  He has helped a wide array of companies from small technology startups to Fortune 100 companies, in the areas of Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Modeling and Simulation, Human Factors, and Interface Design.  For the past fourteen years, Craig has been consulting for the Boeing Corporation where his work has won much recognition.

While at Boeing, Craig was worked on the design and implementation of air traffic control systems, command and control systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, computer aided design and publishing systems, missile defense systems, homeland security systems, agent based and cognitive modeling as well as building advanced fast-time discrete event software and simulation tools for a wide variety of Boeing commercial and military projects.  Craig has an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance that he uses to support this work.

Craig has published twenty research papers in professional journals and proceedings relating to the fields of User Interface Design, Computer Graphics, Simulation, and the Design of Spatial, Stereographic, and Auditory Displays.  In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, playing tennis, racquetball, drums, and composing and recording music.  He has designed and illustrated five book covers for Harcourt Brace Publishing Company for authors such as Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Stephen King, and Bruce Sterling.  In addition, his music has been featured in several films and his computer graphics animations appear in the movie “Beyond the Mind’s Eye”.
